10 home design trends to ditch in 2015

blog 7What we have learned in home trends for 2015 Cont. #7

Here are trends the professionals say homeowners have steered clear of in 2015.

Number 7: Tiled Counter tops

Tiled counter tops have been around as long as any of us can remember, but their popularity has resurfaced in recent years. This is due in part to more classy options such and travertine and porcelain, but primarily tile is still used because of its lower cost and ease of installation. It is much more affordable than other materials like granite, copper or quartz.

There are two primary reasons why you should not be lured into choosing the tile option:

1. Who want to clean grout lines? Cleaning is an ongoing issue.

2. Resale value. Spend more now to get more later. Home shoppers would rather not see tile.

Bottom line is tile has come a long way and if this is all your budget can afford it is a much better options than Formica. But all tiles involve the dreaded grout! If it has to be tile, than choose porcelain for its ability to withstand stain. But the best options for a kitchen are those surfaces that are not porous and protect us from all the bacteria our kitchen counter tops may see.
It is very easy to find suppliers of prefabricated countertops which are very cost effective especially for the handy man...or woman.

Replace it with: A quartz slab, slate, or manufactured solid surfaces.
